The Jamberoo Rural Fire Brigade, Jamberoo IGA and Elders Jamberoo are participating in a food drive to assist local communities and the Salvation Army.
You can leave non-perishable items in the specially marked trolley at Jamberoo IGA until December 23.
John Friedmann, deputy captain of the Jamberoo Rural Fire Brigade said the collecting of items had been successful so far.
He said the aim was to ensure less fortunate families have sufficient food this Christmas.
Mr Friedmann said the ongoing community support for such causes was due to the “close ties that you get from living in a village, and the fact that people know each other, they talk to each other and these ideas spread fairly rapidly and readily”.
“The reason why we’re doing this is because Jamberoo fire brigade is well-supported by the community, and I thought that it was important that the brigade do something to return that support,” he said.
“This is our first time doing this Christmas appeal.
“We’re following on the inspiration from the Oak Flats fire brigade, who does the same thing.
“They’ve been doing it for years now, and I thought it would be something Jamberoo could do, because they’re a very generous community.
“We’re donating it to the Salvation Army because they distribute all the stuff that’s collected in the Illawarra, in the Illawarra.”
The brigade will also be door-knocking the village and collecting donations on Sunday, December 18 from 10am-1pm.
“We’re going to divide the village into sectors, and send out four fire trucks to do a door-knock,” Mr Friedmann said.
“Don’t panic if you see a fire truck outside your house on that day – you’ll get a knock on the door and we’ll go from there,” he joked.
