Name: Trish Levett.
Occupation: Aboriginal liaison officer for Kiama Municipal Council and Aboriginal Health Worker, Cancer Care Team Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service.
Suburb: Gerringong.
Hometown: I was born on Gundungurra Country up in Bowral. I lived in Mittagong all of my life until I moved to Gerringong.
What brought you to the area: I had spent many of my school holidays as a child in the Kiama area and loved it. Even as an adult later on in life I would spend weekends exploring the area. I was working in Aboriginal Mental Health in Bowral and decided it was time for a change.
I found the area to be peaceful which is what I needed in my life at that time with a very busy workload. I moved to Gerringong about 10 years ago and I travelled to Bowral each day for work up until I had my son Jarrah.
Hobbies: Cultural ways are very important in my life, so many of my hobbies are around culture which include painting Aboriginal art, collecting bush medicines, bush-walking to find sites that have never been recorded, listening to music, and swimming and relaxing beside a river or the ocean. I love to sit and watch the stars at night and occasionally I write songs.
Fun fact about you: I have been known to be a real joker; I love pranks and have a great sense of humour. My motto is laughter is the best medicine in life and live life to the fullest. I am a chatterbox – what can I say, I love a good yarn.
There is never a dull moment in my life as I live it to the fullest. I will have many funny memories to look to back on in my life’s journey when I am old and sitting in my rocking chair.
My favourite thing about the area is: There is always a feeling of peacefulness; my favourite spot is the boat harbour in Gerringong where I love to go and watch Grandmother Moon with my son Jarrah on a full moon.
What makes the area unique: The community spirit in this area is amazing, the community pulls together when it is needed. I love how the mountains meet the sea.
