Last week, The Association of Fundraising Professionals recognised The Rotary Foundation with its annual Award for Outstanding Foundation. The award honours organisations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs.
AFP’s committee of judges cited Rotary’s comprehensive campaign to eradicate polio as a major driver of the selection. They also mentioned that Rotary applies a methodical, purposeful approach to support a wide variety of causes, from providing clean water to educating the next generation of peace professionals.
On the local scene, the club is making finishing touches to the refurbished Saddleback Mountain Southern Lookout. The official opening will be held on Saturday, December 10. We invite members of the local community to join us on the mountain for a sausage sizzle at 12 noon followed by the official opening at 1pm.
The project has included more than 500 volunteer hours and considerable hard work. It continues Kiama Rotary’s involvement with Saddleback Mountain dating back over 50 years.
KIAMA LIONS
Last weekend some of our Lions helped our neighbours in Shellharbour Lions with their big fund-raiser, another Hot Rod Show at the Costello Oval. This was the first year and the event shows great potential. Thank you most sincerely to all you who "liked " or made favourable comments on our Facebook page about the Respite House project. Your contribution was very helpful and useful.
This week we donated 25 of our scrumptious Christmas cakes to the Denny Foundation, we do this every year because of the wonderful work they do in giving poor families in the Warilla area a hamper at Christmas and enabling those folks to have Christmas dinner at home together.
We had a great meeting for "Youth of the Year" with the finalists being from Kiama HS and St Josephs High School. We were amazed at the standard and were sure we couldn't have done as well when we were that age. Our next meeting will be the Christmas party which we will be held at the Surf Club.
