“Council has received a number of complaints from the public who have expressed concerns about the content of the signage. Council is currently investigating the matter. There are certain circumstances where signage requires approval from council,” a spokesperson said.
The new series of signs at the old LaSalle Motel meanwhile have divided opinions and caused great controversy and a flurry of comments on the Narooma News Facebook page. Here are a selection:
“Why not put up half naked men of there's nothing wrong with the signs? So sick of the female body being exploited by men. Does he only want men to stay in his hotels? Are they actually brothels?” – Michelle Renee Frost
“I thought it was a hair salon.” – Sammee McCarthy
“I don't really understand why it has to be this kind of signs, what’s wrong with the seals relaxing at the Australian Rock or some of the beautiful beaches around our hometown. The signs looks like they are opening up a brothel. Sorry but that is my own thought. Don't like it.” – Tulipe Nugent
“I honestly can't see a problem with the sign. The same people complaining about this are probably the same people who are complaining about HuntFest. The sign isn't offensive at all, you can't see anything inappropriate.” – Lynne Donnon
“Maybe he is hoping that the elderly prospective residents will not want to live in a place with this signage and he will resort to renting to younger, freer style residents as he couldn't afford to keep them empty.” – Gillian Waring
“Well it's not the signage I'd use for Seniors housing.... but what would I know. However, I think it's a stretch to say the sign is offensive in this day and age…” – Ash Lamb
“It tell's me it's sex apartments not anything else. How very tacky for a beautiful little town.” – Tania Patterson
“People get upset over this? Yep it's today's society there offended by everything.” – Dave Clark
“I don't mind the look at all, all the Tara's are solid 10s.” – Jack Clothier
“The signs do not match the business type ... Seems really strange and off putting.” – Sarah Joy
