Around 3.30am Rural Fire Service crews from Greenwell Point, Callala Bay and Culburra Beach attended the Greenwell Point wharf where a net trawler was on fire.
The male boat keeper was woken by the blaze on the 16.7m timber fishing vessel and attempted to put out the blaze.
The fire was extinguished but the boat sustained considerable damage to the rail area on the starboard side.
Police attended the area and a crime scene was established, with specialist forensic officers examining the boat.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and investigations are continuing.
It is understood the vessel is owned by a local fishing company.
