It seems one of the scriptwriters for the soap opera Home and Away must have come to Narooma on a holiday or something.

During an episode of the television show this week, some alert local watchers of the show may have noticed a brief mention of “Narooma Hospital” when a character’s medical records flashed up on screen.
Not being a regular viewer, I know no more details but thankfully Julie Bradley took a screenshot to preserve the mention for posterity.
I clicked over to the show after seeing Julie’s post on Facebook just to see if I could catch any other obscure Narooma references but all I saw was a character make reference to using “Smoulder”, which all I can only assume was meant to be non-copyrighted version of Tinder.
Anyway I digress, this Narooma reference could be added to our list story – “Only Things Naroomians Would Know” that covers unique features and facts about our town. Click here to read it
And maybe only Naroomians would know that Narooma doesn’t have a hospital anymore, although resident historian Laurelle Pacey informs us there was a Narooma Hospital from 1919 to 1924 located across the road from the Kinema/School of Arts Hall.
It was a private hospital owned by Dr Birmingham. Interestingly the old School of Arts Hall was converted in 1919 for a few weeks into an emergency hospital for the Spanish Influenza epidemic. There have been various calls over the years for a hospital in Narooma.
