And the all-female dance group was wearing traditional costumes featuring the artwork of local Narooma artist Cheryl Davison, who designed the painting on the dresses to represent sand.
The dresses were made and the designs handpainted by the Montague Arts and Craft Society’s craft group together with Ms Davison.
The group made a total of 21 dresses for the Djaadjawan Dancers to wear at the Dance Rites Competition, a free event for families and supporters held on the western broadwalk of the Opera House.
During the last couple of months, the all-female indigenous dance group has also performed at numerous events and locations, including the “Blak Markets” at the new Barangaroo Park and at Two Towers at Barangaroo for the international Westpac Group.
Dancer Sharon Mason said the group was also privileged to perform on the inside of the Opera House in the Utzon Room, named after the architect who designed iconic building.
