Nathan Hill, 36, is accused of involvement in two break and enters.
Police had a warrant for his arrest when they arrived at a property in Penrose Tuesday morning, but Hill made off on an unregistered bike.
Police say Hill was pursued through Penrose, Dapto and Koonawarra, but disappeared into bushland.
Hayes Park Public School was placed in lockdown and a Polair chopper joined the search from overhead.
Police have seized a trail bike found at Dapto, but the search for Hill continues.
Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are appealing for information into Hill’s whereabouts.
Hill is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, approximately 85kgs, of a thin build, with short brown hair.
He is known to frequent the Wollongong and Dapto areas.
Police have urged members of the public not to approach Hill.
