Thousands of Harley-Davidson riders will descend on Stuart Park for Australia’s first ever Harley Days festival from October 28 to 30.
Expect Harley demo’s, BMX stunts, guided ride tours, show and shine, DJs and live bands, kids fun, nail-art and blowdries at the “Doll Hut” and the ultimate cut-throat shave at the “Dude Hut”.
Director of Marketing for Harley-Davidson Australia and New Zealand, Adam Wright, said the event was more than just motorcycle enthusiasts revving their engines but was also a celebration of the brand’s “lifestyle”.
“I think in a way motorcycling has become a little more accepted over the years,” Mr Wright said.
“The friendliness of the riders; we have a lot of charitable events; the motorcycling community in general is very generous in what they give to a lot of diff charities and causes, and I think that’s help change the face of motorcycling.”
He said Australia was seeing an increase in motorcycle brands popping up while Harley-Davidson has experienced an increase in road bike sales in the past 12 months.
Retired police officer Ken McDonald of Horsley has been a fan of Harley-Davidson for a long time, finally swapping his Japanese bike for a touring classic 16 years ago. He now owns two bikes while his wife has one.
Mr McDonald has traveled extensively in the saddle, riding in many countries across the world including Italy and Slovenia.
He said the iconic bikes may not be for everyone but the owners are generally a “nice group of people” from all walks of life.
“I’m excited and feel fairly privileged [this event is in Wollongong], as we get an opportunity now to showcase the city to the world,” Mr McDonald said.
Event organisers are expecting anywhere up to 5000 people.
