Anthony Mundine recently urged Australians to follow the lead set by NFL players in the United States and boycott the national anthem in the AFL and NRL grand finals this weekend.
Mundine used social media on Thursday to raise awareness of the treatment of Indigenous Australians.
"Been saying this for years!," Mundine wrote on his Facebook page.
"All players aboriginal and non aboriginal should boycott the anthem and start changing Australia's ignorant mentality.”
Mr Ward said he doesn’t agree with Mr Mundine’s statements.
“People should stand for the anthem this weekend,” he said.
“I’ll be singing with extra volume so that clowns like Mundine get the message that it’s about pride in our nation and respect for our nation and all people.”
