The Rotary Club of Minnamurra will be hosting the Emergency Services Expo at Black Beach, Kiama on Saturday, October 15 from 9am-3pm. 

This is an annual event and the 2016 version will be the tenth expo the Rotary club has promoted.

Emergency Services from throughout the Illawarra and South Coast will be in attendance, including NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue, Rural Fire Service, St John Ambulance and Surf Life Saving. 

Entry is free and organisers are encouraging everyone to have a fun day out as well as seeing demonstrations and the equipment that enables the various services to respond to emergencies.

“There will be water bombing over Kiama Harbour by helicopter from the NSW Rural Fire Service as well as other displays on the harbour by other emergency services,” David Ferne, emergency services coordinator at the Rotary Club of Minnamurra said.

“Some really good news is that the 32-piece NSW Police Band will be performing throughout the day and all of the other Emergency Services will have demonstrations during the day.

“The SES will be conducting a rescue simulation from a smashed vehicle, which is always popular with the crowd. 

“People don't realise the amount of equipment that services use during rescues.” 

Mr Ferne said the event had expanded rapidly during the past decade.

“It grew from an idea the Rotary club had,” he said.

“It started out reasonably small and has just accelerated.

“It’s just got bigger; we had 1500-2000 people throughout the day last year.”

Mr Ferne said the event is always great fun for the whole family, with plenty to see and eat. 

Items will be available from the Rotary barbecue trailer.

“You can try plenty of food on offer or bring your own and have a picnic; just enjoy the day,” he said.
