This week we have two reports from local fishing clubs. Good to see the snapper and flathead finally picking up at both Narooma and Bermagui, with Tuross also still delivering.

There have also been some great gummy shark catches offshore and off the beaches, and don’t forget that trout season also opens this weekend.
Scotty at Bermi Bait & Tackle reports inshore reef fishing remains productive for most with good sized tiger and sand flathead still on the menu. Fish are being caught in 35m of water out the front of Bermagui and south a little deeper for some cracking tiger's and a mixed box of 'reefies'.
He also reports plenty of activity on the surface at Wallaga Lake, which is great for September. “Back bays of the lake were touching 19 degrees. Whitebait holding up in a number of areas. Bit of fresh has dirtied the water a little and the bream were happy to each a Sugarpen lure.”
Now for those local fishing club reports:
NSGFC report: The Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Club on Saturday had its first outing of the new calendar year at Mummaga Lake. Being an environmentally friendly club, we decided to do the right thing and leave the fish in the lake, yours truly and the secretary of the club tried to do an impression of two men in a boat by not using the motor, because the damn thing would not start. So after some good morning exercise there was some well earned coffee and cake enjoyed by all. Earlier in the week Peter Rando and Les Waldock fished Wagonga Inlet for a great catch of bream and snapper. They found the fish near the oyster leases with the best bream going 36cm and the snapper to 34 cm. All fish were released. The next day, along with another member, Mike Morrison, they fished in 60 metres of water off Tuross for a great catch of snapper to 54cms, morwong and flathead. Best bait was strips of striped tuna. On Saturday Mick Roberts and John Cathor also ventured out to Tuross having a great day with a mixed bag of fish, the biggest a 45cm snapper and a 54cm flathead. Don’t forget Friday, being the last Friday of the month, is eat-in day at the club and this time it is hot dogs for $2 each, so bring your friends and relations. As usual the NSGFC rooms, situated on the inlet near the restaurants, will be open for tall tails about the ones that got away, fish stories , drinks and snacks from 4pm till 9pm on Friday. Visitors are most welcome. Other dates to remember are the club working bee on Saturday, October 8 from 8am, the four-day Wee Jasper trip from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 and finally GoFish Day on October 16, being organised by DPI Fisheries around the state – Jan Hemmingsen
BCC Anglers: Members of both the Bermagui Country Club Anglers and Bermagui Hotel Fishers enjoyed their recent annual comp. Winner of the trophy went the way of Bermagui’s Ian Reid. President Sandy welcomed all members, thanking those who contributed to the luncheon. The social interaction was evident with old friends meeting up, creating a happy atmosphere. The raffle was drawn and once again a Bermi CC Angler stepped forward for the prize – secretary Dawn Kenyon. Please be advised that the October fishing weekend is October 14-16. – Drifting
