U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year is the Leukaemia Foundation's hospitality industry fundraising competition.
Since the campaign's launch in 2009, U.G.L.Y. Bartenders (Understanding Generous Likeable You) throughout Australia have raised more than $8 million to help people with blood cancer.
U.G.L.Y. Bartenders aim to create events, fundraisers, games and experiences that patrons in their venues will embrace.
This October, staff at Kiama Leagues Club will be taking part, hosting activities each Thursday from 6.30pm onwards.
Jamberoo resident Jack Armstrong-Wright is among the venue’s U.G.L.Y Bartenders for 2016.
The club’s fundraising activities will include indoor bowls, games, raffles and trivia.
All the money raised on these nights will go to the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign.
This year is the first time the club has participated in this fundraising effort.
However, Mr Armstrong-Wright is familiar with the fundraiser from his time working at Jamberoo Pub.
“It’s just for a good cause and a bit of fun to join in, have a laugh,” he said.
“It’s a good time to catch up with mates and family.”
In 2015, more than 1480 bartenders and venues throughout Australia registered to be U.G.L.Y., and raised $2 million to enable the Leukaemia Foundation to help people with blood cancer.
According to organisers, every $80 raised provides people with a home-away-from-home for one night in the Leukaemia Foundation's free accommodation in a capital city close to treatment centres.
