There are just a few weeks left for punters to purchase tickets at early bird prices.
Jez Lowe, one of Britain’s busiest live performers, will appear at Folk By The Sea, which once again will be based at the Kiama Showground Pavilion.
Simon & Garfunkel – The Concert features 20 of the biggest hits of duo Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
Mark Shelley and John Robertson perform the songs that made Simon & Garfunkel famous, including Feelin’ Groovy, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs Robinson and The Boxer.
Artists from Britain, the US and Japan as well as 26 Australian acts will perform at the ticketed part of Folk By The Sea on the Friday night and Saturday (September 23-24).
Meanwhile, Sunday will feature local acts performing at free concerts in Kiama’s Hindmarsh Park and Kiama Bowling Club.
The Australian line-up includes Genni Kane, formerly of popular bluegrass band The Flying Emus, The Button Collective, the Jan Preston Duo, Enda Kenny and Dave O’Neill, Squeezebox Boogaloo and many more.
On the Saturday afternoon, Melbourne performer Celine Yap from Little Foot will lead a Concert for Refugees.
The local acts performing at the Sunday free concerts include Joe Mungovan, Dane Overton, Lizzie Bennet and John Littrich and the Water Runners.
Folk By The Sea is run by the Illawarra Folk Club, which also hosts the popular Illawarra Folk Festival each January.
Illawarra Folk Club president Russell Hannah said the festival was now on the international map, attracting high-quality overseas performers include Lowe and Martin Wyndham-Reid from Britain, the Haywood Billy Goats from the US and Kenta Hayashi from Japan.
He predicts that the Simon & Garfunkel tribute show, which be the Saturday night feature event, will be one of the big drawcards of this year’s Folk By The Sea festival.
“Simon & Garfunkel sold in excess of 70 million albums, and are one of the great vocal duos of all time,” he said.
“Mark Shelley and John Robertson have been touring this tribute show successfully around Australia for 12 months and we are thrilled to have them on our program.”
Organiser Rod Cork said Folk By The Sea has established a strong reputation in its first three years for being a great little festival at a great location, which means that the selection committee receives many more applications from top-class performers than it can possibly accommodate in the program.
“We’ve become spoiled for choice as the festival’s reputation has grown,” Mr Cork said.
“That’s fantastic for us, and fantastic for the patrons who come to the festival. They are certainly going to see some great musicians and singers this year.”
Early bird tickets are on-sale until September 19, with full festival two-day passes at $55 for adults and $25 for youth aged 12-17. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
Tickets are available online at www.folkbythesea.com.au/tickets or by phone on 1300 887 034.
