It will be located at the Kiama Visitors Centre.
Kiama Tourism operations manager Lisa Kelsey said it is a worthwhile investment.
“I think it’s a great community initiative and we are very grateful for [the donation],” she said.
“We do have a lot of first aid incidents here at the Visitors Centre, so it is a great location for [the defibrillator] to be held.
“Lots of emergencies occur off Storm Bay and the Blowhole, so it’s a great support for the community [and means] we can potentially save some lives.”
Kiama and District Business Chamber board member and Kiama councillor Gavin McClure said the donation allows the area to be better prepared to respond to emergencies.
“… We don’t have enough defibrillators in the community,” he said.
“This area hasn’t been suitably covered … so it is a great thing for the Chamber to do and will help the community.”
Cr McClure said the Visitors Centre was selected as the location due to the volume of visitors.
“We decided on the Visitors Centre as the location because of the number of visitors who come through the doors – particularly in summer where it can be up to 1000 people a day,” he said.
“If it can save a life, it’s a very worthy cause.”
