Contracted on NSW's rookie list, the leg-spinner has plied his trade in the under-23 Futures League competition for the past two seasons.

However, the 20-year-old said he was ready to make the step up after working on his game during the off-season.

Zampa spent the Australian winter playing club cricket in England, where he enjoyed bowling for long stints.

"I was in Chichester just bowling a lot of overs, getting into the right habits and working on the art of it," he said.

Aside from his England stint, advice from former Australian spinners Stuart MacGill and Greg Matthews has helped him improve.

"They played more than 30 Tests each so any time I work with those blokes it's going to help my cricket," Zampa said.

Before he makes the step up, Zampa said his focus was on bowling consistently in both the Futures League and for his club side Sutherland in the Sydney first grade competition.

"I've gone well in the 2nd XI over the past couple of years, I just need to take that form and confidence across to grade cricket and keep taking wickets," he said.

"It's just about when the chance comes I'm there to take it."

Zampa said he was keen to work on his batting and aspires to transform himself into an all-rounder.

"I've been batting around seven or eight for Sutherland," he said.

"I'd really like to get a few scores and move up the order in grade."
