Born in Brisbane, where one of his most famous works, Johnno is set, Malouf is the author of nine novels, five collections of short-stories and nine volumes of poetry, and essays.
He is also a playwright and librettist.
His awards are numerous and include the Miles Franklin Award and the Commonwealth Prize for Fiction (for The Great World).
Remembering Babylon was short-listed for the Booker Award and won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
In 2016, he received the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature.
Jose’s seven novels and two collections of short stories include Paper Nautilus, The Red Thread and Original Face.
His acclaimed memoir Black Sheep: Journey to Borroloola appeared in 2002.
He was general editor of the Macquarie PEN Anthology of Australian Literature (2009) and has written widely on contemporary Australian and Asian art and literature. In 2002-05 he was president of Sydney PEN.
He was Chair of Creative Writing at The University of Adelaide from 2005-08, where he is now Professor of English and Creative Writing.
The September 11 Berry Conversation will be from 3pm-5pm at the Berry Sports and Recreation Centre, 660 Coolangatta Road.
There will be a book signing and refreshments afterward.
