They will visit Kiama on Saturday, September 10 during the Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember.
The cyclists are riding 150km from Bondi to Berry to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease research.
“I am pleased to be able to welcome the riders into Kiama for a well-earned break,” Kiama Mayor Brian Petschler said.
“Kiama council, through our Dementia Friendly Kiama Project (DFKP), shares the same goal of raising awareness of dementia.”
More than 353,800 Australians live with a dementia-related disease, most commonly Alzheimer’s disease.
That number is predicted to climb to 900,000 by 2050.
Dementia is the second biggest cause of death in Australia, and there is currently no cure.
An estimated 1.2 million Australians are caring for someone with dementia.
“We as a community play an important role in supporting people living with dementia to live a life with meaning purpose and value,” Cr Petschler said.
Riders will arrive at Blowhole Point (near Milk & Honey Café), about 11am on Saturday, September 10, before setting off again at approximately midday.
The Alzheimer’s Australia Memory Van will be on-site to provide information to the public, and the Blowhole Buskers will perform.
Bondi2Berry organisers are hoping to raise at least $20,000 for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to go towards researching a cure.
