On Tuesday morning a spokesman from Nowra Police station said there had been “no change” in the circumstances since Monday afternoon.
Just before 2pm, Harold Brown, aged 35, was under guard at a hospital in the Shoalhaven when he escaped custody.
Police have been told the man left the location on foot.
Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command searched the surrounding area, with the assistance of PolAir and the dog unit.
Police advised the public not to approach Mr Brown but instead to phone triple 0 if they saw him.
He is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, 170-175cm tall with a medium build and black hair. He was last seen wearing underwear or green shorts and no shirt.
