The 39-year-old man pleaded guilty to sexual intercourse without consent, indecent assault and intimidation in May this year for the offences in 2014.
The man’s victim was a new migrant to Australia when she entered into a seven month relationship with the man who could not deal with her later rejection.
After ending the relationship in late 2013 the victim was contacted by the man in January 2014 requesting a meeting, telling her he was moving to Sydney and had something important to tell her.
He arrived at the victim’s home armed with a bottle of wine, a red rose and an album by American country music singer Kenny Chesney.
Once inside the house he produced a ring, got down on one knee and proposed marriage.
The victim declined and advised him she was in a new relationship.
The man then removed his clothing before raping the victim who repeatedly refused his advancements.
After the assault he texted the victim with a message ending with the words “really loved you”.
He then sent a further text message to the victim falsely claiming he suffered from Hepatitis B.
The following day he handed himself in to Narooma Police Station where he was cautioned and told of the allegations against him before refusing an interview.
in late 2014 the man drove his car towards the victim’s new boyfriend who was controlling traffic on section of the Princes Hwy, causing damage to the traffic sign he was holding at the time.
He was arrested the following day, telling police while he was cautioned he “did not do anything wrong” and that his second victim had “come over and hit my car with the pole”.
A pre-sentence report stated the man had been using the drug methylamphetamine and had not slept for two weeks prior to the assault and the drugs were a “major contributing factor to his offending”.
He claimed to be injecting the drug up to 10 times a day, substituting it at times with heroin and cocaine.
He was sentenced in Bega District Court by Judge Dina Yehia on Tuesday and will be released on parole in January 2018.
