On July 10 the inaugural running of the Kiama Coastal Classic took place, with races across three different distances; a 15km, 10km and 2.5km.
The 2.5km took the form of the Kiama All Schools Championship in which more than 120 boys and girls from nearly 20 different primary schools across NSW competed.
With a points structure that encourages participation as well as those that placed in their respective age groups it was Gerringong Public School who were awarded the Kiama Coastal Classic All Schools Trophy.
In particular there were two notable performances on the day by the Caswell brothers; Tynan, six, and Reilly, nine, who both placed in their respective age groups.
“It was fantastic to see so many kids getting involved in running at a grassroots level and more importantly enjoying themselves in the process,” CEO Mark Emerton of Elite Energy, the company behind the running of the Coastal Classic said.
“No doubt there are a few potential Olympians in the making.”
