The man, aged in his 40s, is believed to have aggravated a pre-existing back injury at the water’s edge on Tuesday morning.
He was at the bottom of a steep rocky outcrop on the southern side of the Kiama Heights headland when he got into trouble.
Paramedics, Fire and Rescue NSW and SES workers used a stretcher to lift the man up rocky terrain, and into a waiting ambulance.
