The steelmaker is seeking penalties from the Australian Workers’ Union over a 24-hour strike at the Spring Hill plant on May 26.
AWU Port Kembla secretary Wayne Phillips said the hearing will only be brief, as both parties have agreed to an extension.
“We’ve asked for a bit more time to prepare our stuff and the company’s agreed to that, to delay it a bit,” Mr Phillips said.
He said BlueScope was still proceeding with the case but had also agreed to talks in the interim.
“They’re determined at this stage to still press ahead,” he said.
“They’re having two shots, they’re saying ‘we’re going to court but in the meantime we’ll have talks but we’re not withdrawing out of court’.”
Mr Phillips said the issue was still “very much up in the air, there’s no relationship between the parties.”
BlueScope was contacted but declined to comment.
