Not too many years ago entrants from throughout the Illawarra would don ballgowns and be introduced at the annual show ball in front of more than 700 people.
They would then attend the show where the winner would be announced.
The same format has been held in recent years but the numbers have not been as high. So this year the call is going out earlier and Kiama residents were being encouraged to spread the word about what is for many a good personal development opportunity.
It was the subject of discussion at a recent fundraiser for the 2017 show. It took the form of a beauty masterclass/high tea at The Pavilion at Kiama Showground that involved Coco Chai Dayspa, Tussta Hair and Making Faces Make-Up Studio in Kiama.
Meryll Faulkner, of Making Faces, said she and the other businesswomen donated their time for the charity event that also raised the profile of Miss Kiama Showgirl.
Fiona Wilkinson said entries were about to open.
“They can email kiamashowgirl@gmail.com or they can check kiamashow.com.au,” she said.
“The show is always on the last weekend of January. If we could get at least half a dozen entries that would be great.”
