Around 1450 students from years 3 to 6, hailing from Helensburgh down to Warilla, will perform a selection of contemporary and pop songs.
While some parents may think it’s just a chance for kids to get a “fun day” at school later in the year, festival president and principal of Corimal East Public School Bede Darcey said it builds confidence and teaches students to work in a team.
“Of course they all have to follow the conductor, but everyone has a part to play,” Mr Darcey said.
Every child will be a winner, each receiving an official participation ribbon and the chance to take a prop from the show home.
The excitement of watching themselves back on their parent’s smartphone will also be another treat.
Mr Darcey reminisced about when he was in primary school, how excited the choir was that their teacher was able to record them singing on a cassette tape.
The Wollongong Choral Festival continues at the Town Hall from Monday August 1 to Wednesday August 3.
