Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler posted that the bluefin had been caught as far north as Batemans Bay. 

Bermi Bait and Tackle reports that the average fish was 50-60kg in most areas thus far and fish have been caught closer to us in toward the 150'30 line. Big Kevin, resident chef at Bermi Bait & Tackle, went out the front (36'26 150'40) for a look on Tuesday and found more bluefin and some big albacore also. Fishing solo and finding them much closer to home, top effort mate. 

Wagonga Inlet meanwhile was packed on the weekend with the Atomic Southern Bream Series coming to town for the first time with 48 boats and 19 kayaks on the water. Tournament director Greg Brogan said the bream fishing was tough with anglers focussing on the weed edges with green plastics and hardbodies.

Biggest fish went 1.06kg, while the biggest bag of five bream went 2.92kg and all were released. He hopes to bring the comp back next year. 

Graham from Tackleworld Moruya reports that the Moruya River is fishing well for some good size bream being caught along the rocky edges from Ryan’s Creek down to the Preddy’s Wharf Area. Luderick are being caught around the Hole in the Wall, with some perch and jewfish being caught around Quarry Wharf of a night. Tackle World Moruya team members Mark and Angus caught luderick, tailor and bream off Quarry Wharf. Congratulations to Angus for landing his first ever tailor, on an ARMA Metal Slice.

At Tuross, the oyster leases have been producing some large bream, mainly being caught on deep diving hard-bodied lures, with the lures of choice being the Strada Badger and Daiwa Pressos. Plenty of jewfish are being caught on live poddies around the front, near the boat shed. Some nice bream and perch are also being caught around Bumbo.

On the rocks and beaches, quality drummer and bream are being caught off most of the headlands at Moruya at the moment, with salmon and tailor in the gutters from Pedro Point down to Goulburn Workers. Most success is being had on fresh fish bait and beach worms. The entrance to Coila has also been producing large numbers of salmon and tailor, favouring a combined rig of salted pilchards and ARMA Metal Slices. Tackle World Moruya team member Nathan had a couple of great sessions this week around Pedro, catching some nice sized whiting on live beach worms. He also had some success diving, bringing in some nice sized lobsters.

Offshore Graham reports there has been plenty of 2-3kg snapper caught around the close reefs in about 20m of water, with a few gummy sharks also attracted to the burley trail in this area. Blue spot flathead are out off the Wind Sock, and down towards Congo, and are responding mostly to squid and fish bait – try a paternoster rig with bait on the bottom and a hook and soft plastic on the top. Some larger gummy sharks have been caught off of Congo, with some nicely sized snapper thrown in.

Now here is the this month’s Bowling Club fishing report from Fishfingers:

Bowlo Fishos – It was the start of Club Narooma’s Bowlo Fishing Club competition and it started with a bang with some good fish hitting the scales to keep weighmaster Wayne busy. Outside the crews went really well on both charter boats on the Saturday and Sunday with Sunday seeing the bigger kings landed yep it’s been a long time since I have seen kingies and bonnies this late.

The girls fishing on Dreamtime won the round with Brenda and Bec weighing fish 4kg plus but Sunday saw fish to 7kg and others got fish over the 1m mark plus some nice snapper and mowies on the N/E corner of the island. As a bonus, in close off Kianga there are some good flathead. On the beaches, members reported some nice salmon at Tilba Beach and Mick bought in a thumper bream just over 48cm. Winners for the Month saw Dave Clark as overall winner with Brenda Setzer, Bec Smart, Will Tiffen, Greg Tiffen, Peter Shakeshaft, Randall Setzer, Wayne Giffen, Jack Bennett and Mick Kavic all collecting a voucher.

Now for housework – the nomination forms have been placed on the club’s noticeboard with the AGM to be held after the completion of the August comp – new committee members welcome. Presentation night is on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Club Narooma with tickets at $5 PP.  A list will also be placed for Buckenderra in 2017, cabins costing $90 a night now. Members must be financial members of Club Narooma from July 1 to compete in the fishing competition. Quite a few have asked me what’s been happening with the Marine Park review that’s only three years late but all I can say is that Phillip Creagh has been put on the advisory committee and I feel he might make them take a new look at the park set up.
