Elite Energy Marketing Manager Sebastian Gallery said hundreds are expected to participate in the event.
“It is set to be quite the running event for the entire family,” he said.
“Numbers are already looking really positive, with demand to race this course far exceeding our expectations.”
Developed by South Coast Local and CEO of Elite Energy Mark Emerton, the event is designed to challenge athletes while showcasing the local sights. Set along the Gerringong to Kiama track, a number of local attractions will feature including the Kiama Blowhole and Werri Beach.
Elite Energy Marketing Manager Sebastian Gallery said the event centred on the community during the planning process.
“When in planning for the event, we really wanted it to be a community affair - an event that includes the entire family,” he said.
“From this, Elite Energy created separate races that would suit all members of the family.
“[These include] the 15km Kiama Coastal Classic … from Gerringong to Kiama Coastline; the 10km Blowhole Dash that can be run as an individual or as a two person team, or the 2.5km Lighthouse Bolt that [includes] the All Schools Cup where regional primary school students will compete on a points basis for a trophy.”
With the City 2 Surf approaching in August, Sebastian said the Kiama Coastal Classic fun run serves as an opportunity to practice.
“The race provides the perfect opportunity for those taking part in the City 2 Surf or the Mountain to Mountain,” he said.
“You couldn’t ask for a better race to test where you are at with your training. For those not as serious, the views will make the kilometres disappear with ease as participants are welcome to run, jog or walk the entire course.”
All three races finish at the Black Beach reserve in Kiama where there will be an expo showcasing running gear, as well as food vendors and a face painting stall.
