Fast four fast forward to relay title

KIAMA High School's recent run of success in its sporting endeavours has continued with a gold medal for its under 15s girls 4 x 100m relay team at the CHS State Carnival, held in September.

The Kiama team, made up of Keeleigh McCauley, Abby McParland, Audrey Pring and Grace Stewart, won the medal with a time of 50 seconds, ahead of silver medallists The Hills Sports High by almost a full second.

"It was definitely an excellent result for the girls, especially considering they backed up the gold they won in the under 14s event last year," Kiama High School PE teacher Tim Poppett said.

The girls went into this year's final with an air of confidence and in the race wiped almost 1.5 seconds off their qualifying time to take out the medal.

"It wasn't really a huge surprise to us - we won it last year and knew what we had to do to win again this year. But we were definitely happy with winning the gold," team member Grace Stewart said.

"Keeleigh actually won an individual gold in the 90m hurdles, Larni Cowgill won a silver medal in the girls' under 16s high jump and a bronze in the triple jump, and Alice Hewitt made the final of the open girls 200m final," Mr Poppett said.
