Last year the council installed traffic lights at the Kenny Street intersection and replaced the roundabout at the Auburn Street intersection with a second set of lights.
The work meant that Harbour Street is the only major intersection on Burelli Street without a set of traffic lights.
“Council undertook extensive research and computer traffic modelling as a basis for the Access and Movement Strategy and to ensure that traffic still flowed along Burrelli Street and RMS are monitoring the traffic signals,” a council spokeswoman said.
She also said the access and movement strategy would be reviewed in the coming financial year.
“The review will initially gather data on all modes of transport including traffic volumes, bus operations and patronage as well as pedestrian and cyclist movements before developing options for new projects,” the spokeswoman said.
No further traffic lights are planned for Burelli Street, however new bus shelters and parts of the footpaths will be upgraded in the coming years.
