Three weeks ago, the Knights were unbeaten atop the ladder, but losses to Gerringong, Nowra and Jamberoo have sent their season into freefall.
Port Kembla’s early charge also took another major stumble, as Albion Park – thumped 58-0 by Jamberoo last weekend – bounced back to beat the Blacks 24-14.
But it was Jamberoo, in the shadow of their coast-side neighbours in recent times, who showed they’re up for the title fight this year, with a gritty 16-10 win over Kiama in slushy conditions on Sunday.
In a close contest, Jamberoo led 10-6 at the break, before grinding out the win as the inclement weather set in at Kiama Showground.
Port, who had three sent off in last weekend’s loss to Berry, never recovered after trailing 16-0.
Meanwhile, premiers Gerringong delivered a second half show of force to triumph over Berry on Saturday.
Berry led 4-nil at the break after a tryless 40 minutes, but the Lions refused to be denied, as winger Taylor Hudson, prop Tim Moore, halfback Rixon Russell and back-rower PJ Ford scored to take control.
Berry’s Brent Marando finished with three penalty goals as the Magpies failed to cross the try line.
