Kiama ambulance officers Kelvin Milne and David Kay are among 24 finalists for the 2016 Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards. Mr Kay, a paramedic, is being recognised after a grateful friend he helped when he broke his neck in a mountain bike accident nominated him. Mr Milne, of Jamberoo, is station officer at Kiama but is presently working in Bowral as an acting operations manager. He was a mentor to Mr Kay when he started at Kiama 14 years ago. “It is an absolute honour to be nominated in the company of Kelvin. I have great respect for him as an on road paramedic as well as a supervisor. I am blessed to be in a position where I love what I do. I get paid to do it and I also get to help people out. Getting to save lives is my reward,” Mr Kay said. In another local connection the coordination of the annual awards is done by Kiama couple Carole and Ian Johnston, of JAi Events. Funds raised at the July 23 presentation go to an Australian Rotary Health, PhD Research Scholarship investigating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
