Visiting Eden-Monaro this week, Social Services Minister Christian Porter said that almost 5,300 organisations across the nation would benefit from the Volunteer Grants to make the work of their volunteers easier, safer and more enjoyable.
“Volunteers play a critical role in building stronger and more resilient communities,” Mr Porter said.
“This funding demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting those who help support others.
“We are giving direct support to 52 groups here in Eden-Monaro. I was impressed and humbled to learn of the extraordinary work they do.”
Dr Hendy said the Government’s investment is delivering vital support to small community organisations which help many of our most vulnerable citizens.
“The Volunteer Grants will assist a range of local groups in Eurobodalla,” Dr Hendy said.
“The grants of between $1000 to $5000 enable local organisations to better support their volunteers by purchasing much-needed equipment and computers, helping with training for volunteers and meeting fuel costs, or undertaking background security checks.
The following Eurobodalla organisations have received a Commonwealth Volunteer Grant:
- · Eurobodalla Landcare Network: $5,000
- · Narooma Surf Life Saving Club: $5,000
- · Narooma Community Health Auxiliary: $2,500
“Community organisations are using their grants for such things as equipment and training costs,” Dr Hendy said.
“In many ways, volunteers are the lifeblood and the backbone of our community and I’m glad to see that our local organisations have benefited to help support their valuable work.”
