World Red Cross Day honours Henri Dunant (Red Cross founder) through 189 national societies, and recognises the vital role played by Red Cross supporters through acts of humanity.
The gala event was held at The Grace Hotel, Sydney.
Heidi Smith, Australian Red Cross Kiama Branch president acknowledged Mrs Robb’s award.
“The Kiama community is very proud to be able to celebrate this prestigious award which honours the outstanding contribution that Vicki has made,” she said.
Mrs Smith said that the citation for Mrs Robb’s award included reference to her “distinguished service above and beyond the call of duty’’, “promoting the image of Red Cross’’, “leadership, organisational tasks, and co-ordination activities’’, “assisting other community groups” and more.
When asked about her award, Mrs Robb declined to comment other than to say, “I am just another person helping out with Red Cross’’.
Of the almost one hundred awards presented on the day, including several from large metropolitan locations, Mrs Robb’s award was reportedly the only one from the Illawarra region.
“By any standard this is a remarkable achievement,’’ Mrs Smith said.
“Vicki’s efforts truly embody the Red Cross fundamentals of humanity, voluntary service and unity.
“To say that Vicki Robb has received an award which is ‘well-deserved’ is an understatement.
“Vicki’s efforts with Red Cross have been nothing short of outstanding, and so her award is undeniably well-deserved.”
