Michael Brennan was elected Show Society president for the second year at the society’s 168th Annual General Meeting on Friday, May 13.

Greg Chittick was elected junior vice-president, Ron Gregory as treasurer and Sue Granger–Holcombe secretary.

Mr Brennan said the 2016 event had proved challenging, but the society had big plans for next year’s show on January 27-28.

“It was a difficult year for the society mainly because of the adverse weather conditions from mid-afternoon on the Friday,’’ Mr Brennan said of the show. 

“The weather conditions were not really in our favour, but we had a reasonably successful show given the circumstances.

“We are looking at many improvements for the 2017 show.’’ 

Among revamped show plans is the rescheduling of the annual Kiama Show Ball from January to the start of the party season, on Saturday, November 26.

New fundraising events have also been slated. 

The schedule so far includes: A Beauty Master Class in conjunction with Tussta, Making Faces and Coco Chi Day Spa on July 10 at The Pavilion, the return of the popular Trivia Night at The Pavilion on August 13  and a barbecue at the Seaside Markets on Sunday, August 21. 

The year 2016 will also see the hosting of the inaugural Kiama Show Society Sand Sculpture competition at Surf Beach, Kiama on December 11.

Mr Brennan said the Show Society committee was keen to retain its agricultural links, but as one of the oldest organisations in Kiama, was also eager to engage with and entertain the community in new ways.

“The committee has been hard at work with its planning and we look forward to a great year with some exciting new events and changes,’’ he said.
