Gerringong and District Historical Society are launching a DVD which presents a pictorial walk back in time through the township of Gerringong.
Gerringong Then and Now is a project resulting from the combined efforts of many people within the Gerringong community and the Gerringong Historical Society.
The DVD consists of some 700 photographs, both historical and contemporary, which present a comprehensive history of Gerringong depicting how it was in the early days compared to now.
The project was instigated by Kevin Jewell, who developed the concept of the walk through time.
He collected all the ‘then’ photos from various sources, took most of the ‘now’ photos and conducted extensive research into the history of Gerringong.
The project will be launched at 2pm on Saturday, May 28 at the Gerringong Museum in Blackwood Street.
It will be launched by Colin Sharpe and Ken Miller, both long-time members of the Gerringong farming community, and who have played a strong role in the Historical Society over many years.
The launch will be preceded by the Society’s AGM at 1pm, to which members of the public are invited to attend, to share in the achievements and challenges of the past year.
Those wishing to attend the launch should phone Sandra on 4234 1545 or email gerringonghistory@gmail.com to assist with catering.
Afternoon tea will be served at the launch.
The DVD will be available for sale for $20 after the launch, and will continue to be available at the museum on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm-4pm.
The Gerringong area was first settled in the late 1820s, initially by cedar cutters.
The town of Gerringong was officially proclaimed on January 17, 1854.
