The centre’s highest accolade is the Dean Blair Memorial Trophy, which is presented to the athlete who attains the highest level of improvement throughout the season.
This year’s winner was under-11 athlete Lachlan Poole.
A special mention to Naomi Robinson, who now moves on to senior athletics. Naomi has made a wonderful contribution to athletics on Friday nights at Kiama over the years.
- A great effort.
In second place was Elias Oldfield (under-9s) and in third place Jake Cleal-Cook (under-17s).
Dean Blair was a member of Kiama Little Athletics Centre in the 1980 season, joining at the age of nine.
A natural athlete, Dean broke an amazing 15 records in the under-10 age group in three months, some of which still stand today. His goal was to compete at the Olympics.
Tragically, Dean died in December 1980 as a result of a playground accident at school.
The perpetual trophy was struck in Dean’s memory.
Under-17 athlete Jake Cleal-Cook was the recipient of the Coaches Most Improved Award.
The centre’s annual general meeting was held on Wednesday, April 6 at the Kiama Leagues Club.
This year the centre desperately needs new committee members. It was great to see some new faces, but the centre is still in need of a new secretary and canteen coordinator.
At the end of March, the Kiama Centre was represented by 15 athletes at the State Track and Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
Reilly Caswell, Ella Cleal-Cook, Matt Cordell, Cooper Deegan, Imogen Harrison, Grace Mahon, Gabrielle Marriott, Cassidy Morris, Elias Oldfield, Christian Page, Matthew Page, Georgia Richards, Naomi Robinson (Para-athlete), Emma Scollary (Para-athlete) and Nathan Scollary all earned the honour to compete against the best Little Athletes in the state, and did the club proud.
A special mention to Naomi Robinson, who now moves on to senior athletics.
Naomi has made a wonderful contribution to athletics on Friday nights at Kiama over the years and her efforts at inter-club competitions were an inspiration to everyone.
Registrations for the 2016/17 season will be taken in August.
