It seems the big kingfish stuck around Montague Island all last week, but we will wait to see if they are still there after the recent rain and storms. There was the odd kingfish caught yesterday with things a little slower. There continues to be good reef fishing too as we can see from the ladies from the Dalmeny Fishing Club.

Skipper Nick Cowley on Narooma charter boat Playstation got onto the big kings again on Tuesday. “Past few days has been top fishing at Montague with big kings every day.”
Playstation also got some albacore out wide on Sunday and is hopeful of some yellowfin showing up. There was another catch of tropical speedster wahoo off the Narooma Bermagui coast. Andy Caves and Dave Cassar were fishing with Nathan Brown on Head Hunter last Wednesday when they boated two nice wahoo on the way out in search of yellowfin and blue marlin. Locals Luke Cathor and Brett McDonald travelled down to Mallacoota to fish for a broadbill swordfish with Richie Abela and landed a nice fish of 80kg. Meanwhile out of Bermagui in recent days, Footloose tagged a blue marlin pushing 200kg, and Tyrone O’Connor went 3.2.2 on striped marlin.
Now is the peak time for fishing in the estuaries and rivers as the fish take advantage of the final warm days before winter. Things were a little slower on the weekend due to unfavourable tides but fishing should pick up toward the full moon. Cheryl Goodridge earlier this month caught some very nice bream at Colia Lake, including the one pictured that was her PB by far. She was more concerned about returning it safely, but we reckon it would have to be mid 40s at least. These fish could be 30 years or more old, so please let them go.
Up at Moruya, Ray at ‘Brewing, Camping, Fishing’ let us know that the the fishing gods have been kind and turned on the fish for the school holidays. He had some reports of good catches in the Moruya River, and even first-time fishers caught edible fish. Flathead, bream and even the odd whiting are in the rivers, while tailor and salmon are plentiful on the Moruya area beaches and squid on the headlands.
Dalmeny Fishing Club report – The Dalmeny fishos on Sunday, April 17 held their monthly weigh-in. It was the annual ‘Memorial Day’ to remember all our past members. We had a great day with the girls heading out with Wazza on Lighthouse Charters and bringing back some lovely fish.
Ladies winners for the day were a tie with Lisa Rix and Marie Maher. Men’s winner was Brian Brown, Junior winner was Elise Dickson and the Lucky Angler was Helen Dwyer.
The ladies caught a mixed bag of kingfish, flathead, morwong, snapper, amberjack and bonito. We would like to wish Pam a safe trip back home to England, I am sure she made many friends in Dalmeny. Birthday wishes for the month go out to Travis Stubbs, Colin Stubbs, Pat Maher, Norm Budin and Robyn Truesdale. Dont forget to check the notice board for the raffle roster!
