RichmondPRA service New Outlook partnered with Northcott disability services to put on the April 13 event for their clients.
RichmondPRA manager Chloe Hancock said the day was about promoting social inclusion for youth and people within the community experiencing mental health conditions and social disability.
‘’The message today is a really strong focus around youth and mental health and ensuring education and awareness within the community,’’ Ms Hancock said.
‘’It [mental health] is of quite high prevalence and it is something we need to be aware of to be able to address collectively. It is important for services like ours to work together to support people, young or old, who are experiencing mental health conditions.’’
Northcott disability services Illawarra-Shoalhaven area manager Deirdre Cowan-Brown said it was nice to celebrate the day at New Outlook’s premises in Wollongong.
‘’It is nice we have a facility here that we’ve been able to access and it is great that these guys are all having such a fabulous time,’’ she said.
Northcott’s main office is in Oak Flats but it has satellite sites in Wollongong and Nowra for its Transition to Work program, which helps young people who have left school get back on their feet through further training and employment.
