Now you have the chance to take a bird’s eye view of the construction works thanks to Bolong helicopter pilot Max Cochrane, who flew over the area and took photographs for the South Coast Register.
A marathon concrete pour took place on Thursday night and Friday morning at the new Kangaroo Valley Road bridge, which is a key component of the 12.5 kilometre highway upgrade from Toolijooa Road to just south of Andersons Lane.
More than 1,100 cubic metres of concrete was laid using concrete pumps and generators.
The next stage of work after the pour involves building the shared cycle and pedestrian paths, installing safety barriers and completing the bridge approaches.
When complete the bridge will be 19 metres wide, 50 metres long and carry two lanes of traffic with shared cycle and pedestrians paths in each direction.
Large concrete Super-T girders will be placed on the next three spans of the bridge.
Once the girders have been installed, a 4.9 metre high clearance will be in place for all motorists using Woodhill Mountain Road.
Work will involve setting up a 500 tonne crane, moving the girders to the bridge and lifting them into place.
It is hoped the bypass will be open to traffic in mid-2018, weather permitting.
Almost half the earthworks for the project have been completed, work has started on all 12 bridges, including the installation of more than 200 Super-T girders on bridges at Toolijooa Road, the three Broughton Creek crossings and Berry.
Temporary side roads have also been opened near Austral Park Road, north of Berry, Kangaroo Valley Road, Schofields Lane and Andersons Lane.
Motorists were moved onto the new Tindalls Lane overbridge in early January to allow the new highway to be built below the 54 metre long bridge which will form part of the Tindalls Lane interchange.
Some extended work hours will take place between Gembrook Lane and Berry to complete the traffic switch under Tindalls Lane bridge, and to progress work on the bridge at Berry and the new Kangaroo Valley Road bridge in the next few months.
A community project display centre is open at 59 Woodhill Mountain Road, Berry weekdays between 9am and 5pm.
