The announcement was made this week during a special presentation with the NSW Minister for Women Pru Goward and Kiama MP Gareth Ward at the Berry CWA Hall in Victoria Street, Berry.
Mrs De La Torre’s achievement recognises her contribution through the Country Women’s Association in Berry and as part of the CWA Wollondilly Group for 31 years.
Mrs De La Torre joined the CWA Berry branch in 1985, holding the positions of president for eight years, secretary and treasurer.
Within the CWA Wollondilly Group, she has held the positions of president, vice-president, secretary and publicity officer.
She was also a representative to the CWA State Council on many occasions and acted as their choir conductor from 2003 to 2011.
“Mrs De La Torre was awarded Life Membership of the CWA for her significant, tireless and ongoing commitment to their organization,” Mr Ward said.
“She has also been heavily involved with the Albatross Musical Theatre Company since joining in 1992 and in that company has held the positions of president, secretary and treasurer.
“Marie has been involved in eight productions, been director three times and her love of music is incredibly evident along with her selflessness in helping young people in particular to achieve their full potential.”
Local award winners will be invited to join their Member of Parliament at the 2016 NSW Women of the Year award ceremony at Parliament House in March.
