The Kiama Independent will be talking to a number of the standout performers in the lead-up to the festival.
In the meantime, he’s a rundown some more of the highlights.
*Ward’s Xpress: Kiama Bowling Club, Saturday night 9pm. Blues and classic rock, with 20 years of performing and touring Ward and his band is right up there with Aussie blues royalty. Veteran of 10 Byron Bay Blues Festivals.
*Paul Winn Band: Kiama Leagues Club, 10pm to midnight Saturday. Four-piece guitar driven blues with an improvisational style incorporating jazz and fun.
*Out of Abingdon: Shades of Bjork, Nina Simone and Grant Green, this raw beautiful music grooves and delights with understated elegance. Double bass, guitar and vocals. Will perform at Cafe Parkview, Amaki Cottage Cafe and Kiama Leagues Club.
*Chris Harland Blues Band: Grand Hotel, Kiama on the Saturday night. Revisiting the best of the blues standards: BB King, Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters. UK guitarist Harland brings the tradition of British-made electric blues, authentic riff-driven Chicago sound, a high-voltage heritage of Clapton, Beck, Page and Green.
*Young Bands Come Out to Play: Hindmarsh Park on Saturday afternoon. Showcasing young, local and emerging talent, featuring El Grande with Joe Mungovan and James Vann, Tropical Wax with Ben Fryer, Sean Emmett and the Kiama High School Band.
*All Day Jazz and Blues Concert: Hindmarsh Park, Kiama from 11am on Sunday. Two stages, groove all day, everyone’s welcome. Featuring Chris Harland Blues Band at 11am, Australian Navy Big Band 12 noon, Dane Laboyrie Band 1pm, Blue Eyes Cry 2pm, Sound of KoKo 3pm, and Tommy M and the Mastersounds at 4pm to finish the day.
*Jazz Gospel Service at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, noon on Sunday. A non-denominational musical celebration featuring 18 inspired voices of The Honeybees and The Parson Sons Plus Gospel Band. Everyone’s welcome and your gold coin donation will go towards the Homestead of Hope.
*Roaming Jazz and Blues: On Saturday and Sunday morning, Hot Potato! set the scene on Terralong Street and on Saturday Sax Summit gets the vibe happening on Collins Street.
*Pop-Up Jazz: Kiama Community Centre is a venue for a Saturday night drop-in pop-up dance zone with Paul Robert Burton Trio 8pm-10.30pm. Also with Paul Robert Burton, Christian Marsh and Andrew Toner.
*Jazz in the Vines: Devine Devilles at Crooked River Wines on Sunday afternoon. A powerhouse duo with Ali Penney and Dorothy-Jane and a love of that sweet swinging, shuffling, grooving place where blues meets jazz. Vocals, keys and blues harp.
