The service cannot be offered until the series of towers is complete as the signal bounces from one tower to another travelling north from the master tower at Bermagui, which is now installed and ready to transmit once the other linking towers are complete.
A NBN spokesperson said construction of the Mystery Bay NBN fixed wireless tower had not yet started as technicians were still working through details, as they were for the proposed Tilba tower and several others in the network.
There are NBN fixed wireless towers are proposed at sites at Central Tilba, Wallaga Lake, Akolele, Tilba, Wonga Road at Narooma, Coolagolite, Mystery Bay, Cobargo and possibly others.
The good news is the Bermagui tower has now been built. This is the master tower from which the NBN signal is connected from the underground fibre optic line and then sent to the other towers. Also built so far is the tower at Wonga Road, south of Narooma.
“Many of our fixed wireless towers are radio linked to nearby towers; this means they rely on the next tower to operate. The fixed wireless tower at Tilba is one such tower and is radio linked to Mystery Bay. Under the current design Mystery Bay will need to go live before Tilba is able to service the local community.”
