Last week Perez defeated top-ranked player Joana Eidukonyte 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (10-3).
The match did not come without its share of drama, as Perez dropped the first set 7-5 despite leading 5-3.
She came back to win the second set after trailing six games to five and 3-0 in the tiebreak.
Perez, currently ranked 12th in the NCAA, then coasted through the super tiebreak en-route to the win.
Perez has now beaten the top two players in the country - Eidukonyte and No.2 Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State.
“It was an amazing experience,” Perez said. “I was just happy to get the win for the team; we did an awesome job out there.”
Tennis tip: Good physical preparation is important for all players returning to local competition after the Christmas break.
