Teams will compete against each other fortnightly on Wednesdays.
The Southern Steelers team involves police officers working at the Lake Illawarra and Wollongong Local Area Commands.
All activities will take place off-duty as a social competition.
There are four members of the team that reside in the Kiama area.
The competition season will involve more than 300 police and is supported by the executive management of the NSW Police Force.
“The Southern Steelers have already experienced a great response from officers signing up, ensuring that a strong side is being developed for this year’s competition,” club president Paul Allman said.
“The team will be coached by Jye Sommers and Andrew Atkins, both from the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command.
“They are supported by an experienced committee, again all local police.”
A Players and Family Day took place on Sunday at Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow.
The draw is as follows:
*Round 1: Mascot Oval - March 9 at 3pm. Southern Steelers vs Manly Sea Eagles; Eastern Suburbs Wombats vs Parramatta Eels; Macarthur Bulls vs Bankstown Giants.
*Round 2: Lidcombe Oval - March 23; 4.15pm – Bankstown Giants vs Parramatta Eels; 6pm – Eastern Suburbs Wombats vs Southern Steelers; 3pm – Manly Sea Eagles vs Macarthur Bulls.
*Round 3: WIN Stadium, Wollongong – April 6; 3pm – Bankstown Giants vs Eastern Suburbs Wombats; 4.15pm – Southern Steelers vs Macarthur Bulls; 6pm – Parramatta Eels vs Manly Sea Eagles.
*Round 4: Pittwater Rugby Park- April 20; 4.15pm - Manly Sea Eagles vs Eastern Suburbs Wombats; 3pm – Southern Steelers vs Bankstown Giants; 6pm – Macarthur Bulls vs Parramatta Eels.
*Round 5: Campbelltown Showground - May 11; 3pm – Parramatta Eels vs Southern Steelers; 4.15pm - Macarthur Bulls vs Eastern Suburbs Wombats; 6pm – Manly Sea Eagles vs Bankstown Giants.
*Semi-finals: May 25, Cabramatta Sportsground.
*Grand final: June 3, Cabramatta Sportsground.
