But early next month for one night only it is board game playing that will take pride of place at the Wollongong club.

The crew from Good Games Wollongong came up with the idea to hold a Board Games Night for Make-A-Wish Wollongong.

All money raised at the February 6 charity event will go to the Wollongong branch of Make-A-Wish.

Make-A-Wish Australia was founded in 1985. It has granted over 8000 wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.

Make-A-Wish Wollongong fundraising coordinator Emma Doyle said Make-A-Wish wishes give seriously ill children hope for the future, strength to face the challenges of their illness, and joy from their incredible wish experience.

Miss Doyle said the Wollongong branch granted wishes for children throughout the Illawarra.

“We have partnered with Good Games Australia for this event and have had a lot of support from our local good games store – Good Games Wollongong are selling tickets in store and also donating prizes for the raffle,’’ she said.

Miss Doyle thanked Wollongong City Diggers club for donating the venue and the local gaming community for their support.

“The event come about when a group of friends got together to have a games night,’’ she said.

“Adam Harris, Dane Sanderson, Todd McGinn and Daniel Stack have been fantastic in helping me get this event up and running. They have all donated their time and game expertise specifically for the day.’’

The February 6 event runs from 2-9pm. It will include raffles, finger food and other activities throughout the day.

“We have many different games to play and many more to be won in raffles and games on the day,’’ Miss Doyle said.

“We will have a team of volunteers to show you how to play and make sure everyone is having fun.’’
