Even so some die-hard fishos rose to the occasion and presented a few weighable fish.
The three fish out of the bag for the first competition were game fish, snapper and Nannygai. The game fish went begging, but the snapper was won by Jay Allen fishing from a Hobby Craft and the nannygai was won by Phil Boneham.
The blue water prize, with a 3.836kg snapper, again went to Jay Allen and the rock, beach and estuary prize was taken out by Dale Evans with a commendable whiting.
The monthly senior Cock-O-the Walk was Jay Allen and the Junior Cock-O-the Walk was Tom Carghill with a nice black fish.
The rain certainly stirred the fish into action the day or two before it arrived and those that ventured out reported excellent mixed catches of Flathead, Morwong, Snapper and Pigfish.
They knew something was on the way. Fishing quietened down whilst the fresh run-off existed, but is now on the improvement.
It was a very disappointing result that the fresh had on the annual prawn run generally. We were just settling into a great run this year only to see it killed off with excessive rain.
The important issue here is the supply of the initial food-chain as this run-off settles it tends to bring fish closer to the in-shore reef's.
The next monthly competition is on Sunday, February 7 so until then keep those rods held high and those lines tight, good fishing.
