Kiama council is inviting residents who have been accepted as Australian citizens to be part of a special Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day.

The council is asking people who have had their applications accepted and have taken the Citizenship Test to consider making it official on Australia’s national day, Tuesday, January 26.
Each Australia Day public holiday Kiama council holds a Citizenship ceremony in Hindmarsh Park, Kiama.
It is attended by Mayor Brian Petschler, general manager Michael Forsyth and councillors.
The event also features an address by Kiama council’s Australia Day Ambassador.
The 2016 Australia Day Ambassador is Najeeba Wazefadost.
Ms Wazefadost, an Afghani refugee is involved with a number of organisations such as Amnesty International and Australian Committee on Refugee Women.
She is also the president of Hazara Women of Australia and is a vocal advocate for the rights of women, refugees and children in detention.
Ms Wazefadost is a writer, panelist on the ABC’s Q&A, finalist in the 2013 NSW Woman of the Year Awards and has also established her own child care business.
