Triplet calves are said to be rarity with odds of about one in two million, according to the internet.
These three were born in late November.
What’s more they are all heifers, which is even rarer according to Shortland Dairy Farm’s Caren Taylor.
It is believed that the odds for triplets to be all female is about one in eight million.
‘’In my 20 odd years of farming I haven’t heard of it happening too often,’’ Ms Taylor said.
She did however here about female triplets being born in Shoalhaven in October this year.
Worrowing Heights man George Anasata saw his Limousin cow, affectionately known as Rosie, give birth to triplet heifers.
He described the experience as ‘’astounding’’, something Ms Taylor concurred with.
‘’It was just amazing. It was such a thrilling surprise,’’ she said.
‘’The birth took about two hours, with Ebony first, then Red, followed by Mini.’’
Red is the biggest of the trio, weighing 27 kilograms. Ebony tips the scales at 18.1 kg, closely followed by Mini, who weighs 16.6 kg.
Ms Taylor said the average weight for a calf is 40-42 kg.
The Tongarra dairy farm is run by Irena Shortland and her two sons Brian and Craig.
‘’I am hand-raising the three girls with my son son Blake Shortland,’’ Ms Taylor said.
‘’We’ve only known them for a short while but Blake and I are already very taken with them. We look forward to raising them.’’
