In all, 442 double treated hardwood piles will be placed to provide foundation support for the new timber boardwalk, which will extend around the western circumference of the marina - a distance of about 800 metres.
The harbour edge design incorporates pre-cast concrete retaining wall structures and rock revetment. Concrete piles will form the foundations for the pre-cast concrete harbour wall with 50 of the 240 concrete piles having been placed to date.
This latest milestone brings the 300 berth marina, promenade and full commercial boating facilities another step closer for residents of the $600 million Shell Cove master planned community.
“The development of this significant community asset is the realisation of a vision of Council conceived more than 30 years ago,’’ Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said.
‘’We are creating a contemporary, vibrant and liveable space that will bring social and economic benefits to our community and attract visitors to our region.’’
Developed by Frasers Property Australia, formerly known as Australand, in partnership with Shellharbour City Council, the project will include a man-made inner harbour which will be about 30 per cent larger than Sydney’s Darling Harbour once it is completed in late 2018.
“More and more, residents and visitors are having to rely less on their imagination as the vision for the boat harbour and The Waterfront, Shell Cove precinct materialise,’’ project director Glenn Colquhoun said.
