Tighe had a birdie putt on the 18th green to propel himself into one of three British Open qualifying spots, but ultimately pushed his attempt wide of the mark.
He had to settle for par which saw him finish tied with South Australian golfer Nick Cullen on the leaderboard.
As Cullen holds a superior world ranking, he claimed the final spot at the sport’s oldest major.
Eventual champion Matt Jones and veteran Rod Pampling took out the other two spots for the tournament.
The Illawarra Academy of Sports was well represented at the event with another IAS graduate playing in the field in New Zealand Open winner Jordan Zunic in addition to Lincoln Tighe.
Zunic finished the tournament with rounds of 76 and 74, narrowly missing the four over par cut by four shots.
After narrowly missing out on qualifying himself for the tournament by three strokes, IAS graduate Travis Smyth was caddying for his good friend and fellow Australian Matthew Lisk.
Current IAS Scholarship Athletes also featured in the prestigious event with Jamie Raey caddying for Corey Webster from Canada, Che Sandiford caddying for Hamza Amin from Pakistan and Jett Preston carrying the bag for amateur Zhou-huan Yuan from China.
BaiMed 100 100’s charity event for Disability Trust
Illawarra Academy of Sport staff and athletes recently showed their support for IAS partner BaiMed Sports Physiotherapy by participating in the annual 100 100’s charity event held at Beaton Park on Saturday, November 28.
The 100 100’s is the brainchild of BaiMed’s principal physiotherapist and 2013 Young Business Leader of the Year, Mick Baines who created the event to raise money for The Disability Trust.
The event involved individuals or teams completing 100 metres on 100 occasions in 100 minutes.
“The Disability Trust provides care to over 3000 clients in the Illawarra region and relies on the generous support of the community through a number of charity events like the 100 100’s,” Mr Baines said.
The IAS sponsored the event and entered a team consisting of IAS Programs and Athlete development manager Andrew Barrett, athletes Hannah Crinnion (LoneStar-Athletics), Charlotte Bett (Athletics), Elena Delaveris (Athletics), Luke Britten (Cycling) and Ryan Britten (Cycling).
